Back in 2009 Mindstyle released early photos and concepts of a Tiki Stitch made and designed by Eric Tan.
It looked like it would be a REALLY nice piece.
“Re-imagination has always been one of the central themes of Walt Disney. The Stitch Experiment 626 tour presented a whole new world of ideas and creative interpretations. Just announced is the first of several artist custom figures selected for limited production. Tiki Stitch by Eric Tan is the nearly 10 inches tall (ATC) art toy collectible figure that takes us to where it all started in the Hawaiian Islands, 1st quarter 2010.” – Mindstyle Dec 2009

The Preorder started in Jan 2010 through Sideshowtoy.com. Being a huge fan of Stitch, I jumped on it even with the steep price.
And we were shown another picture from Mindstyle.

Jan 21 2010 – Once again shown images this time of the Production. And release date stated! Feb 2010…which never happened.

Jan 22,2010 – A final look on location at Disney’s Tiki Stitch by Eric Tan (ATC) figure. – From Mindstyle Blog

Jan 26, 2010 – If you haven’t heard of him, you should definitely check his stuff out. In his own words he’s a “Designer/Drawer Dude.” Eric grew up in the sunny San Diego. His style is just awesome…kind of 50’s advertisements/movie posters with a modern twist. He’s done some posters for the last few Pixar movies and is a member of Disney’s Central Creative Team who are in town to visit 365 Santa’s Workshop. It’s rare, but so cool to have the artist himself on hand to QC his own ATC Tiki Stitch figures.–From Mindstyle Blog

So I was excited to see the final product of the Tiki Stitch! And to get it in the early 2010 was even more exciting! But early 2010 turned to Spring 2010, Summer 2010.
Then May 4, 2010 this was the title given for the Tiki Stitch – “First Look: Stitch by Eric Tan”. This scared me. Then I was excited to see if maybe it was the official release with a date…Nope was wrong.
This image was posted –
But the image header stated “Lava Stitch”!? So it is either a variant produced by Eric Tan or a 2nd version? Time will only tell.
SDCC 2010 came and went. Mindstyle didn’t have the “Tron Stitch” at SDCC as planned. They only released the Boxing Mickey. Mindstyle did show the Pixar Tin Toy that’s being released soon. No date yet…Prob next year sometime.
Dec 2009 – Re-imagination continues… Tron Stitch by Scott Zillner; the next in a series of (ATC) art toy collectible figures scheduled to launch at San Diego Comic Tron 2010. – Mindstyle Blog

Then finally after almost cancelling my pre-order, I received an email stating that Sideshowtoy.com would be billing and shipping them out!
Well, I received it today, 8 months after the pre-order.
August 10th, 2010 – Arrived from UPS. Kitten wanted to have her picture taken.

Same image from the first picture.

Nice clean design on the box of Lilo and Stitch – The box weights more that the actual figure!

The box has a magnet that holds it closed. Packed with a gold/yellow fabric with a plastic tray behind it. The bottom right of the box needs to be repaired, but the figure was not affected.

Here is Stitch out of the box. There is also gold writing on the felt padded bottom. No numbering…come on!

Picture of the size comparison – Angry Woebots Stitch (4″), Tiki Stitch(10″), and Disney Vinylmation Epcot(9″).

This is a nice looking figure, but a few improvements would have made it rate better. For one, the head is hollow. Why not fill in the background of the toothy smile? Or at least paint the inside of the head black. Also, for the amount of time it took to make them, a few more brush strokes to make it appear more wooden would have been nice. Lastly, the figure doesn’t have the edition number on the bottom or anywhere on the box. Mindstyle made the piece a Limited Edition of 300, why didn’t they print that or an X/300 number on the figure? For all we know there could be more than 300 out there. They can tell us a number, but is it true?
EDIT DONE 08/11/10 – Come to find out they are numbered – Image from member Dragaroo -Here is his card with number

And the card that I received

7:31pm EST – Contacted Sideshowtoy.com to find out details, well they really know nothing about the #’s. She stated it is possible its a “Artist Proof” and to contact Mindstyle.\
Well got off the phone with Mindstyle and they said…OPPS! that was suppose to stay with us and Disney…So I am KEEPING IT!! Sorry Mindstyle. She stated that the A/P ones are a low numbered.
All in all I give the figure an 8/10.
Thank you for reading!
